Home Office Spaces in Period Homes
More and more of us are working from home these days. Primarily I’m a wedding cake maker so I spend a lot of time in my kitchen baking and decorating wedding cakes, however I also have a lot of admin to get done. We turned our spare room/Room of Requirement style dumping ground into a mini office last year where I can work without taking over the dining table! Our little office needs some work however (whatever you do, don’t look behind the door – it’s full to bursting with stuff!!) so I’ve been having a trawl on Instagram and Pinterest for some inspiration for home office spaces in period homes. Here are some of my favourites!
Rebecca from @love_this_old_house turned an old first floor kitchen into a beautiful new office space, complete with striking dark green walls. The contrasting white furniture matches with the window and door frames perfectly. She has created a beautiful space to work in.
I loved the panelled walls in this image from Chaplins Furniture. I also really like the contrast between the wood and the wall colour. The Art Deco style desk is stunning and a versatile piece. It can be used as a storage unit, writing station or console.
This image from Garden Trading is simple and uncluttered. Everything looks to have its place, and this makes for a better work environment. Unfortunately my desk does NOT look like this!! I love the idea of the noticeboards though and might try to source some of those for my own home office.
How’s this for a stunning home office space?! The wallpaper makes a real impact as a feature wall and there is just enough storage on the desk and shelf to still look beautiful. The sleek statement desk is available from Limited Abode.
I love all the colours in this image from Wild and Wolf. While a work space has to be functional, it can still be playful!
I love the slight Scandi vibe of this image from Garden Trading. The textured walls add interest, as do the wooden floorboards which also add period character. I’m wondering whether to rip up the carpet in our home office and have the boards…
Robyn from @the_house_acc on Instagram has cleverly made a little home office nook using a piece of offcut worktop. It’s such a great use of space and the panelling on the walls is just amazing. Our home office is one room we haven’t panelled – yet!
And last up is this image from Wall Sauce – this is something we should all try to do! This is a great feature wall. Unfortunately I think my room is too small for something like this, but it looks amazing if you have the space.
I’ll be taking some of these ideas and incorporating them into my own little home office. Hopefully if you’re looking for some inspiration for a home office in a period home, you’ve found some here! For more tips on working from home, click here.

Very nice inspirational post! I like the last idea! ♥ It’s like a small private office with a cute window! That’s all I need!
