After one too many wines at a family party on New Years Eve, what better way to blow away the cobwebs than a wander round Dovestone Reservoir? Unfortunately for us, everyone else within a 20 mile radius also thought this was a good idea. It was so busy!
There are actually three reservoirs to walk around. The main Dovestone reservoir was absolutely heaving with walkers, but the path around the adjacent Yeoman Hey reservoir was really quiet with only one or two other walkers – my kind of walking! We didn’t get as far as Greenfield reservoir as we had small children with us who were getting a bit fed up by the time we got there and just wanted to get back. Next time we go though we’ll try and walk that one too.
The scenery is absolutely stunning, and is well worth a trip. There is a 2.5 mile circular walk which is pushchair and wheelchair friendly, so great for wanders with the family. There’s a car park and some toilets too.
It was a lovely walk out with friends. We even managed to fit in some geocaching as there is a really great trail of caches (starting at this one) to find around the reservoirs. We did all of the series apart from 4, as Holly was starting to get tired by this point. There’s no point in trying to make a tired child walk!
This was a great way to start the New Year. I’m hoping to get a lot more walking in during 2020 and this was a lovely one to start off with.
